Students in Grades7 & 8 will be presenting their composers projects this coming week in class.  I am anticipating completing all of the 8th Grade in one class period and most of the 7th Grade in one period.  Students in Grades 5 & 6 will begin their presentations on May 14th unless Mrs. Crawford feels they need more time.

All of the students in Grades 4-8 will have a music vocabulary test within the next two weeks.  Grades 4-6 will be this week (5/7 & 9) and Grades 7 & 8 will be on Monday, May 14th.

All of the students will have a Performance Assessment in Music.  This will be conducted in class the last two weeks of May.  All of the students in Grades 4-8 will have an Objective Assessment at the end of May into the beginning of June.  Students will be told what they need to study for when the time gets closer.

Happy Mother’s Day:-)

March Update

Posted by: eolsmusic on: March 28, 2012

Students in Grades 5-8 have begun their study of important periods and composers in Music History.  They are learning about the Baroque Period (1600-1750) and the following composers:  Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frederic Handel and Antonio Vivaldi.  They are listening to important works by each composer.

Students in Grades 1-4 are learning about important concepts in Music:  dynamics, tempo, melodic direction and movement by steps, skips or leaps.  They are able to find the home tone “Do” fairly accurately.

All of the students are enjoying singing some of their all-time favorite songs:  “Nature Baby”, “Spicy Hot”, “Jelly Bean Blues”,  & “Hoppin’ Guy”.  It is a pleasure to hear them singing both in and out of class:-)    They also love to parade around the music room shaking egg shakers to the song “Guacamole”:-)

The Pre-K and Kindergarten students are LOTS of fun to teach:-)  They love music and are doing very well with the curriculum work that I cover with them.

Happy Easter!!

March Greetings

Students are looking forward to singing some of their all-time favorite songs – “Nature Baby”, “Spicy Hot”, “Jelly Bean Blues”, and “Shamrock in My     Yard”:-)  Students in Grades 5-8 are writing melodies using xylophones, bells and keyboards.  They are working in pairs and are integrating staff notation and rhythmic notation.  They will play their melodies for each other in mid-March.  Students in Grades 1-4 continue to learn important music concepts such as melodic direction, melodic syllables (do, re, mi…), and rhythmic notation (whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, etc).  They are doing very well.  The students in Pre-K and Kindergarten did very well on a unit assessment they took.  The assessment covered melodic direction, and recognizing steady beat from rhythm.  It is a joy to teach all of the Epiphany students:-)

Dear Parents and Students,

Students in Grades 5-8 did very well on their music staff tests.  Students in Grade 4 will be tested on Monday, February 27th.  They will not be having music on Wednesday, 2/22, due to attending mass for Ash Wednesday.  Students in the upper grades will be creating simple melodies and rhythm patterns.  They will play them for each other.

Students in the younger grades are learning how to do simple cultural dances to accompany some of the songs they are learning in their textbooks.  Students in Pre-K and Kindergarten are learning about different music pitches (do, mi, sol, la) using iconic notation.  They are doing very well.

Do enjoy the long weekend:-)

Dear EOLS Famil…

Dear EOLS Families,

Happy February!!  I can’t believe we’re into February already – the school year is moving by very quickly!!  I apologize for not updating this new webpage earlier.  I’ve been a little intimidated by it but I decided it’s time to overcome my fear.

All of the students are doing very well in music.  The students in the 4th-8th Grades have completed their study of the music staff and will have a test on it during the week of February 13th.  Grades 4-6 will have a test on the treble clef while students in Grades 7 & 8 will be tested on both the treble and bass clefs.  The students will then go on to do some theory work with scales, chords and intervals and may even compose a short melody on the keyboards/keyboard-like instruments.  Grades 7 & 8 learned about the history of Country Music in their “Music Alive!” magazines and will now be looking at the history of Disco.  By mid-March, I will be doing a composer/music history unit with Grades 5-8.  This will probably take us to the beginning of May.  In between everything, we will be working on rhythm scores and the recorder.

Students in Grades 1-4 will continue to study the elements of music as presented in their textbooks.  They will be doing some singing, some playing and some dancing along the way:-)

The children in the Pre-K and Kindergarten are lots of fun to make music with.  They have enjoyed doing the “Snowky Pokey” and “The Penguin Polka” (and dancing around my classroom with my small stuffed penguins!).

If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.  If you are ever in need of some extra prayers, please e-mail me and the sisters and I will remember your intention in our prayers.

God bless you.

First Trimester

Dear Eols Families,

The students in Grades 1-8 have been busy reviewing and learning different music symbols. Students in Grades 4-8 were tested on them the week of October 17th. This past week students also began reviewing/learning about dynamics – how loud or soft the music is. The students in Grades 4-8 will be tested on this element this coming week – October 24th. We have also been singing some of their favorite Halloween songs in class – “Scarin’ Alive!” and “Eight Legs”. The Music Alive! magazine has arrived for the 7th and 8th grades. We will begin using them in November.

5th Grade recorder letters went home last week. As soon as I have everyone’s money in, I will be able to place the order.

I am happy to be working with the little ones in Pre-K and Kindergarten. They have lots of energy and really keep my on my toes. I am hoping that music class will be a fun and positive experience for them.

Please let me know if you would like the sisters to remember an intention in our prayers.

Happy Fall!!
Sr. Regina
